• Founded in 2008
• First location was a 2 chair salon and vintage clothing store in Mount Pleasant owned by Kristi's friends Kim & Rose.
• Kristi (Current owner and Operator) joined the team in 2008. She already had a strong following as a hairstylist and was needing a place to land after hopping around to a few salons that didn’t quite fit. 
• The 3 friends Kristi, Rose and Kim built the salon with a $5000 loan (co-signed by Kristi’s reluctant mother), a lot of late nights, and plenty of help from their friends and family in East Van. 
• It didn’t take long for Kristi to start collecting a crew of misfits that were also looking for what was organically becoming Kristi’s dream salon. 
• Over the years we have been through three locations (2 in Mount Pleasant & 1 in Hastings Sunrise)
• The Current location in Hastings Sunrise was opened in 2017 and expanded to open East Vanity Studio in 2024 

"When I started EVP I had no idea what I was doing. No ambitions, no vision and absolutely no training in business. What I did have was a demand for my hair services and an issue finding the right place to do it. I did hair out of my house, I did hair at a few different great salons throughout Vancouver, but none of them quite fit. 

I am grateful for my experiences at all of them, because they all inspired me and taught me in different ways. I fumbled through my first few years as a business owner and reinvented the wheel many times. I did things the hard way I learned and failed. I hustled and burnt out, I grew and reimagined. After all the experimenting and soul searching there are only a few things that remain constant and true for me and East Vanity.

WE ARE KIND, WE ARE CREATIVE & WE ARE ALWAYS LEARNING

These have always been our core values and I’ve given them lots of thought and opportunity to change over the years, but they never have. 

My current vision and mission for EVP is that we continue to be a safe space for a diverse community to shine and play. Creating a safe space for people to be themselves, be creative, grow as individuals and make a living wage while doing it. My hope is that people who work here and get services here feel inspired, welcome and supported.  

One of my favorite things about this place is that we do have customers of all ages and from all walks of life. We also have a team that has a wide range of experience and specialties. I think this adds to the magic and is a product of our kind and creative spirit. 

As far as company culture goes, I couldn’t have imagined or planned for anything this vibrant. There is never a dull moment at East Vanity Parlour and if you like eclectic vintage maximalism and super RAD people, you’ll more than likely love it here."
